Google Expands Vids Editor With AI Avatars, Transcript Cleanup, and Image-to-Video Tools

Published by NewsPR Today | August 2025

Google rolled out its modern video editor, Vids, to Workspace users last year. Now, it’s stepping things up with a fresh wave of features like AI-powered avatars, automatic transcript cleanup, and image-to-video generation. On top of that, the company is also releasing a free version of the editor for consumers, though this version comes with limited functionality.

The free tier will offer core editing tools, Google’s template library, a variety of fonts, and access to stock media. However, the advanced AI-powered tools will stay exclusive to paid plans.

In the enterprise space, rivals like Synthesia and D-ID already specialize in AI avatars and training-video solutions. With Vids, Google wants to give Workspace customers a similar capability—helping businesses create professional videos without investing in costly production setups. Users can simply upload a script, choose an avatar with a specific voice and persona, and generate a complete video in minutes.

First teased at Google I/O in May and later launched in beta, the AI avatars are now becoming widely available.

Another upgrade focuses on smart transcript editing. The software can automatically spot filler words like “um” or “ah,” as well as long pauses, and cut them out with a single click—while keeping the video flowing smoothly.

Google is also expanding its image-to-video technology, previously seen in Veo 3, to Vids. This allows users to turn still images into video clips of up to eight seconds.

Looking ahead, Google is working on even more tools, including noise cancellation, virtual backgrounds (like the ones in Google Meet), visual effects, and multiple aspect ratios such as portrait, landscape, and square. However, the company hasn’t shared a release timeline for these just yet.

The new AI-powered features will be available to Workspace Business and Enterprise Starter users, subscribers of Google AI Pro or Ultra, and Workspace for Education customers.
